CBS News this morning on Boats

Anyone catch this last night?

Dirty Jobs: Abandon Boat!

Join Mike Rowe in Miami, where he's introduced to the business of salvaging submerged boats abandoned by their owners.

I heard all summer long from my non boating friends and a few boating friends that boats are stock piling up and they can't even give them away at government auctions! I was really excited to hear the news so I checked out a few Sea Rays and Marlow Yachts. Guess they never got the memo!

If I had to guess this report was filmed by Peanut Island. (W. Palm Beach) There are typically several left there.

I just read a story here in NC about someone being charged with felony littering for abandoning a boat on an island adjacent to the ICW. He was given time to remove it and didn't, hence the charge. Felony is serious!!

Don't worry....if this gets to be a "big" enough problem OB will launch a "cash for clunckers" program for boats. Then, all the execs at the big media networks can go out and buy sailboats.

Can't they trace the owners and make them responsible for the recovery costs? Hull ID's, serial #'s etc.

Mike

On the Dirty Job show they said they grind of all the serial numbers 1st.

Hey, I'm glad all this is happening. I am now the owner of a Beautiful 215 EC. 1999 but i got it at an awesome price. Nearly mint condition
Never thought I would upgrade to such a boat let alone a Sea Ray. Now I am here chatting with you fine folks about the joys of owning a Sea Ray and floating on the Potomac in front of Obama with a big smile on my face.
Life is good.
