My remote stopped working last week on my Clarion M5170. The unit works sounds great (to me...not a stereo fanatic)...just replaced the cockpit speakers w Infinity which sure beat the stock clarions (they fit over the old grill size too).

Anyway, any advise on how to troubleshoot this? Any suggestions on where to find a PDF of the manual?

Thanks...Ed

The Clarion web site has plenty of information. M5170 doesn't show anything though. I take it that's the head unit? You might search on your remote model number.

My new one stopped working not too long ago. Behind the remote, there's separate wires for control and lighting... so it looked like it was fine since it would light up, but wouldn't work. All it needed was to have the wire pushed back on.

Not much in testing you can do. You can subsitute a known good unit and cable and that's about it. I don't have a spare cable, but I have a spare one of these.

It worked when I removed it from my boat when I upgrade the system. I don't have the cable since I left it in place. It was too difficult to remove.

Hi Frank,

It looks like the same remote unit (except mine is white). Do you want to sell it by chance?
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Frank,
When you replaced the head unit, did you also replace the amp? Is the amp behind the head unit?

Hi Ed

Every boat is different. On mine, the amp is behind the same panel as is the head unit. I replaced the factory Clarion with a later model Clarion, which gave me the remote with a display, but more importantly, Sirius radio.

I have no use for the remote I have. I'll sell it if you want to buy it.

Best regards,
Frank
