correct flushing technique ?

boss man, with all due respect, sell this boat. Start reading up on boats. most of this stuff should have been checked out before you bought it. if you do keep this boat, do NOT put it in the water anytime soon. One of your earlier pictures i saw a bunch of oil in the bottom of your bilge and i can't believe nobody made mention of it. Then you made mention that your drive lube reservoir is empty and nobody made mention of the fact that if you don't actually have any drive lube in there you are absolutely going to trash your outdrive. We all have a lot to learn and many of us myself included either aren't mechanically inclined or in my case too damn big to get down in that bilge! but some of this shit at best makes for a lousy day on the water getting towed in and at worst is stuff that will sink your boat.

you’re right man. That’s What I’m going to do. I’m going to sell the boat but I do want to fix at least the temp gauge issue. Anyone that knows anything about boating will be pushed away when they see the temp gauge not working. I take everything you said in good spirit and will agree with you 100%. after I added drive oil, it stayed full. As well as the PS fluid. I want to at least make sure it’s not over heating to sell it . Even though I got it sold like this, I don’t wanna sell it like this because when someone buys it, it’s possible their first time in the water they get broken down. I’d rather lose some money than have that happen. That’s why I’m trying to hard to get this done because I have two people already wanting to buy the boat pending a sea trial.

this is the post. you have a picture going top down into the bilge and i see a ton of oil in the bottom of the bilge and then you can see the oily residue all over the float switch and bilge pump.

Yea I have noticed that too . I didn’t mention it here but I have noticed that as well. So far the drive or the PS hasn’t leaked . I wonder what that is.

Does the engine oil look nearly new? For a lot of people concerned about how long a job takes to complete, they'll just pull the drain plug from the oil pan, letting it pour into the bilge and catch it out back through the boat's drain hole. It's possible a sloppy "mechanic" could have done that recently but didn't bother to clean out the bilge. I have to do the same on my boat, but at least try to rinse it out with some solvent.

its a clear indication that the previous owner didn't give a fuck about maintaining the boat lol. you need to clean that bilge first and foremost. then you can see if shit is still dripping and leaking and from where.

oil in the engine is not brand new but not very old. Maybe half life. I’m thinking of spraying the bottom with some degreaser and scrubbing . Then hosing is slowly and letting the bilge remove it.

Yea I’m going to try to do that. Best case scenario was a sloppy mechanic. Hopefully no leaks anywhere.

You might find that the bilge pump won't do the greatest job of pumping it all out. Are you in a position to where you can just rinse it out through the drain plug at the transom? That, or use some oil-spill absorbent towels from the auto parts store to finish things off.

I'd hate to think you're selling this already, but I fully understand, especially if you have buyers waiting. It sounds like you've got things figured out about how to proceed with your next purchase. The two happiest days in a boat owner's life; the day you buy your boat, and the day you sell it.

Ok so I called another mechanic out here. The plug that goes on the sensor was corroded. He cleaned it up and it works lol. Incredible. Left it running for 15 min. Temp goes to roughly 160 . Even at 2k rpms remained at 160. One manifold is a little hotter than the other but you can still touch it. Nothing too hot .

It's normal for one side to be hotter than the other when running on the hose so you are okay there.

Oh ok good to hear . I’m actually getting excited and might keep it lmao
Boats are great. For most of us the joy outweighs the frustration. That's how much joy they bring because there is a lot of frustration. Lol. But when your car breaks down, it's a minor inconvenience compared to breaking down on the water or possibly sinking! You literally may need to drop another $5000 to get her back in order and honestly you need to be prepared to spend about $1000 every year on maintenance whether you use her a lot or a little so if you keep her, run her!!!!

Oh I def will. If I decide to keep her I’m changing drive and engine oils. Do whatever else I need to do for the drive and the engine. I do like boating so let’s see. Hopefully after this rough patch, some good times come out of it
