I have a 1990 250 Sundancer. I want to wire in a VHF and GPS/Chartplotter at the dash. Where is the ideal area to do this wiring, or should I plan on installing another terminal block under the dash? I am also thinking that it shouldnt be wired into the ignition switch right?, so it can be used while the switch is off? Thanks in advance.

I am just looking for the most logical place to tap into for power. I have never had my helm apart and dont know if there is a block somewhere closer than making a run to the engine compartment. Thanks again

The VHF should be wired to the battery IMHO....so it always has power.....if you are using DSC with the radio....it likely gets its information from the plotter....in that case...would also take the plotter to a battery.....
On mine...there is a hot terminal block behind the dash.....which powers the accessories...also uses a different ground the the rest of the boat.....

Thanks Pete for the info. Is that hot block wired to a switch or the ignition to turn those items on or off, or is it simply done by the individual switch itself. Thanks again for your help.

You may have a switch on the panel labeled ACC....if so.....it uses the seperate ground for the electronics.......That switch is wired to the battery...(on mine anyway) and to turn the radio / ploter on simply turn the switch on......
