I purchased her last year with the hopes that my wife and I would spend time on the water. Unfornately, she's not taken to the water but ok with the idea of me owning a boat. She's an older vessel (the boat not my wife) and needs a few minor repairs (tilt/trim doesn't work). I've listed for sale or trade on Craigslist and looking to still own a boat and be able to get on the water. I'm looking for a 90's bowrider. I'm asking $8000...is that too much or close to what the market supports for a SRV 260 of this age?

A mid 80's sold for 8K with a trialer in my area about 2 years ago, the trailer wasn't nothing great either.....and there was another owner that couldn't sell it, he traded it for a Ford pickup...rumor has it the car dealer sold it for 10 grand on the internet. I would say you should be in the price range to move it this time of year.

Looks like shes worth more then 8k to me:huh:

IMHO What drives the price down on these heavy 25/26 ft boats is.....
Most people don't have a good enough tow vehicle to pull them.

I paid 16k for mine in 2004.
I believe another CSR member got 25k for his 83 26 DA
A very well upgraded cherry boat.

I have no idea about the Tennessee market.

After some prodding, a local broker told me about his sales.
Last year to date, dozens of cruisers. This year to date, zero. He has sold other smaller fishing boats as well as other smaller trailer boats. No cruisers and some are offered at fire sale prices.

The local demand for cruisers is simply not existent.

He told me he gets plenty of inquiries. Each one turns out to be someone looking to gain insight that is trying to sell a boat on their own or has a interest in moving up or down but must first sell what they have or would love to buy a boat but they have no money or some other reason that would prevent a sale.

beautiful boat! i would buy it for 8 grand if i didnt already have one. how much did it cost you to have the gel coat redone ?

8 seems cheap, but I'm sure is in the right range for boats that size/age. The issue is yours is worth more, but people will need to see it to realize that. If you list it as a 81 sundancer in good condition, it will take a while. I would list it as a restored or re-done 26 foot Sundancer in mint condition, then let people come and see it for themselves. Beautiful boat by the way - you should keep it and convince the wife to like it!

Keep the 26'
Tell the wife on Friday night.
Heading out on the boat now.
I'll be back Sunday eve.
See you then.

If you tightened the filler screw all the way down on the trim pump reservoir.
That may keep the drive from raising.
Its should be backed out 1/2 turn.
Make sure it has fluid and the fuse is good also.

Thanks for the advice guys. I sure do love her (and my wife too:smt043). As for the trim, I hear the selenoid clicking but no motor noise. Not sure the issue there other than maybe a seized motor. The only thing I'm confused about is that the drive is relatively easily pulled up by hand. If the lines were holding pressure, wouldn't that be very hard to move?

Coral reefer. Did you get the new engine in? The trim tilt could just be the solenoid. Even if the magnet part works to bring the contacts together, if the contacts are bad voltage won't make it to the trim motor. Some times these old boats seem like the never ending project. Keep at it . It will be worth it in the long run. It helps if the wife is supportive. Thankfully mine is.

It should be impossible to move by hand. Unless of course your name happens to be David Banner.

Is there fluid in the bottle?

What is downsizing? I tried to look it up in my marine dictionary and it wasn't in there!

this song might apply!

A friend of mine just sold his 26 of the same vintage for $7,000 last year.

As for the trim, there is fluid. I made sure to check that first. I also tried bypassing the selenoid by running power directly to the motor leads and nothing. That's why I think the motor is bad/seized. Maybe rams are bad too?? I wish I knew more about the entire tilt/trim system. I'm going to keep searching the web for info so I can fix myself.

As for the engine, mechanic called me back again and apologized and said that he's been going through some personal/physical issues and he knows that's not an excuse. Maybe I can get something free out if but I won't keep my fingers crossed. He's lost so much credibility that I'm probably just going to abort the project with him. Heck, if his craftmanship is as good as his work ethic, she'll probably sink the first time out.

Your probably lucky you didnt spend much time with the 26' Sea Ray.

You would have became very spoiled with the ride and comforts of these 26 fters.

I went out fishing on a 24' Skipjack flybridge a few years ago. The whole time I was missing how much more comfortable my 26' Sea Ray was on the water.

If your only doing solo day trips on a small lake.
A 26 fter is probably more boat then you needed.

I agree to everything. My first impression was how nice the ride was. But, it is a lot of boat for weekend days on the lake. I'll miss her but still excited about shopping for a new one.
