What size fenders for a 310??
how many??
where placed??
and are those wired fender holders worth buying?? and are they only for forward port and starboard sides???

The fender holders (rocket launchers) that attach to the bow rail probably wouldn't be a good idea on a Sundancer because they block your visibility looking forward.

Fenders..I hate fenders, they are just about as verboten as poop in the holding tank. (previous owner left fender marks all over the boat)

I carry three, in case I have the urge to raft up with other boats, and while I cannot remember the size, they are pretty hefty. I store mine in the transom locker, not butt ugly wire holders for me.

I'd recommend never using the fenders unless absolutely neccessary. As soon as they get dirty, they start sanding the finish on your boat, and before you know, you will have dull, flat microscratched blotches in your gel coat.

I tie my boat in the slip such that it never needs fenders, but I do understand that not everyone has a slip that allows you to do so.

Now that you mention it, i tie up stern in where i dock..i dont need them....
i may need the fenders for transient docking though .so ill keep 3 or 4 in the transom also..

Thanks for your input.....

Hmmm.. Never thought of that.......Thanks....

I back into my dock, but only have a single sided finger. I need them. I do use the rocket launchers, but like the idea of storing in aft. I think there is room???? I use 8.5"x26". I would also recommend using fender covers. They help reduce the scratches.

I keep 4 on board, and I use a couple at the fuel dock, or more if I raft up. The holders that mount to your rail are a good idea if you are short on storage space. I never really thought the visability thing was that big of a deal. It's all about personal preference. I keep mine in the transom locker.

Bill, usually they are placed at or near the midship cleat, and at the aft quarter port or stbd cleat. Depending on the docking situation, water conditions, I normally hang 2. If we are docking where there are a lot of wakes, I'll hang 3. I think mine are Taylor 7 x 22's. Also, I keep a hand pump & inflate needle, like the type to inflate a football, in my dock box to keep them firm, but not too firm.

I carry more fenders than I need to...I can fit 2 in my anchor locker, (no they don't get tangled with the anchor rode & windlass), and I keep 4 in the transom locker.

I really like the Taylor Tidy-Ups for hanging a fender on the bow rail. You can place a fender anywhere you want, it frees up the cleat(s) to secure your docklines. I got them because they are easy for my wife to use vs. trying to tie a clove hitch.

I like that Taylor Tidy Ups also...Perfect for my newbie wife and I...

Thanks for all the input :smt001

Bill,

We only use the fenders when rafting up, or docking on a bulk head... Typically in a slip, if you need a fender, attach it to your dock... The idea is to dock without hitting any thing... We use two approximately 10" fenders for raft ups... Your slip pilings may have fender material on them to protect you boat... Also, when docking in the wind it is a good idea to use the pilings to control you boats movement... When you pick up your boat, I would recommend bringing someone familiar with twin engine docking to assist you...
