For Ipad, what are the boating and non-boating advantages to the black or white versions?

I don't think there is a difference -- the big disadvantage is the screen glare and it's the same on both.

Sun??? Black absorbs heat and your unit will shut down if it gets too hot. My iPhone was previously in a black otter box and left in the sun, it shut down due to excessive heat. Since I've changed to the white otter box,,,, no shut-downs. Coincidence?? Perhaps.

I have the same problem with white iPhones and iPads. These things (iPads especially) generate quite a bit of heat on their own and the sun just accelerates it...white or black. The iPad would be great on the boat if someone invented a case that cooled the device and had an anti-glare screen.
