Generator Starting on 330 DA

I am a new owner of this boat and I unfortunately didn't get any manuals for any systems..so I am lucky to have found this site and it has already saved me untold hours.

My most recent problem is with my generator, it seems to run fine for hours on end and after shutting it down and using the batteries for several hours or overnight (anchor light, cabin lights, etc.) I still show 12 volts on both banks of batteries...the engines will start right up...but the generator acts like it has a dead battery and won't start. Is there a dedicated battery somewhere for the generator that is getting drained or is not longer serviceable? Also, if it helps, as soon as I am on shore power again it fires right up...so I don't think it's a starter problem. Since I have no manuals I was wondering if I am leaving something on or off that I shouldn't while the generator is running. The boat has two banks of two batteries each of unknown age.

Thank you for any help....John

My 330 DA has four batteries. Two in the engine compartment port are for the port engine and house loads. Just Ducky has two batteries under the aft facing seat in the cockpit. The one to port is for the starboard engine. The one to starboard is for the generator. Check the voltages at the terminals to determine condition.

Best regards,
Frank

4 batteries on ours too. Two in the engine compartment on the port side are house/port engine cranking. 2 under bench seat on starboard side, one is for the genny and one is for starboard engine cranking. Wet ones are good for 2-3 years.
