Generator usage survey

Down in South Georgia, I run my genny from the time I leave the dock, until I return. Now we do have about 3-4 months where it gets a tad cooler and we don't need to run it during the night.

On our 280, I put less than 50 hours on it over 7 years. That's not a good thing - I had problems with gummed-up fuel in the carb and other issues which might have been mitigated with more routine use of the generator. We didn't use it becuase it was either not running right, or we just didn't need it since our time away from the dock is minimal and the 280 wasn't so dependent on AC power. On our 40, I use it every time we're away from the dock and the boat has more of a dependance on AC. For example, the how water heater is not connected to the engine water exhaust, icemaker is 120v, etc. Even so, I bet I don't put more than 30 hours a summer on it. Fortunately, this ONAN unit has worked flawlessly.
