OK for you experts out there. I bought a new VHF Icom M504A and I want it to communicate with my GPS, so (God forbid) I have to activate the DSC, then it will also broadcast my position along with my MMSI number.
The M504A has 2 NMEA 0183 wires, both shielded, red (receive +) and white (transmit +).
The HDS-7 has 4 wires, plus a shielded ground. Yellow (TX +), Blue (TX -), Orange (RX +), Green (RX -) and Shielded (gnd)
According to Lowrance I can connect together the shielded wires with the blue and green wires. Then connect the Yellow to white and Orange to red.
So how do you know if they are talking? The Icom tech stated I may have to input an "RMC" sentence into the HDS-7, which he gave me.
I thought these things were just "plug and play" type stuff..........
Any words of wisdom?
