So as title says, we've always done Mitchells, but with our budget running tighter this "odd year of covid"....we're taking a comp stay at Stilings (since we stay at Safe Harbor Deep River CT). Will be there during the last weekdays of this month.

What do you use for dinghy dock when going into town? We're used to Mitchells..just walk up and across the green. But Stirling and Greenport marinas are across the cove. I know there's shuttles running back 'n forth. But..just curious if there's a general public dinghy dock for town.

We mostly walk from Stirling Harbor, but also use the dinghy dock near the hospital. Not sure where you can tie up for free in town.

Some of the local guys will know better but when I was there last year we stayed at Stirling and we used a dingy dock in the corner of the channel one day. See map below from Navionics. One of the other days we paid a few bucks and tied The dingy up along the wharf at Claudios. While tying along the wharf was cool there is lots of wave action in there so I liked the dingy dock with a little bit of a walk better.

We also walked a few times to town and although the kids were not happy about it, it isn’t a bad walk.

Thanks...
So based on your Navionics graphic, I fired up Maps.Google....satellite view, and right opposite that peninsula, I can see what looks like a little dinghy dock (circled in red) right by a tiny green on the corner of Sterling St and Sterling Ave. Will give that a shot...short walk to town from there. Wife has a bum knee....so long walks are tough.

Greenport is our home port and we love it.

We were at Stirling for 10 years and loved the marina but this season moved a few hundred yards away to Townsend Manor.
I would suggest asking for a spot on E or F dock. Great views and nice seasonal people around you. The basin is not as nice and you do not want to be behind the bathrooms/clubhouse or Across from the fuel dock if you can avoid it.

Jeremy is correct, you can easily miss that dinghy dock across the entrance from the harbor. From there it’s an easy walk to town. There is also another larger public (free) dock past Claudios and just past the ferry dock. This dock would put you right in town by the railroad station.

Safe Harbor has a Free shuttle van will take you to/from town

Let me know if you would like any other local insights

@Gary B , can you say which areas in the attached photo would be good for a dinghy tie up? Or even docking the big boat. We'd love to stop in Greenport. But like some others, my wife has some trouble with distance walking. We'd need to find the closest spot to town to tie up.

As a side note, we've taken our kids roller skating at the VFW hall by the ferry a couple times. Lots of fun!

Thanks for the tips...we'll request echo or foxtrot dock.

Re: the other dinghy dock....This one here circled in red?

Yes, correct the dock circled in the second picture and dock #2 in the First picture is the dinghy dock. If you talk with Mitchell Park Marina staff and ask they might let you tie up the dinghy and then you are in the middle of town

Glad to help, let me know if you want any other local insights. Happy to help
