Has anyone installed deck fill guages?

Wow- what a crazy gadget.
Even if I had NMEA 2000 fuel level senders, I'd be hard pressed to drop over $600 to avoid the possibility of spilling a few drops of diesel out of the vent. I don't see that it accomplishes anything else?

Forget ever using one of those on a Sea Ray unless you want to change out your electronics. If you have an older boat, the gauges are all analog. You'd need to remove the gauge and senders and replace them with NMEA 2000 units. Then you get to add these fills. If you have a newer boat with SmartCrap, you get the remove all of the smartcrap stuff because while it is based on CANbus just like NMEA 2000, it's entirely proprietary. Not only is it proprietary, but Mercury doesn't even offer a gateway to NMEA-2000. A gateway would allow someone to buy non-Mercury stuff, which would cost them some money. Or, as Mercury would phrase it, "Bend over and gimme your wallet."

Oh never mind. These things have NMEA transmitters and use standard sensors. No wonder they're expensive. You can use them, but they won't play with much else on the boat, except with the Raymarine electronics. You can connect the fills to your chart plotter if you want to see fuel level on the screen.

BTW, I've found that the gauges are sufficiently accurate that I can guess the amount of fuel required for a fill-up to within about ten gallons. Good enough to avoid a spill.

Frank

Most people install Fuel flow gauges..
Floscan or Northstar.
The Carb boat guys anyway.
My Northstar is designed not to be used with a fuel return hose.
EFI may have a fuel return hose?
They give Info like,
Gals in tank, Gals burned, Gals remaining, Gal per hr being burned ,etc.
Some units even tie into your GPS for actual MPG display.

Guess it could be a expensive backup fuel gauge.
If you did not trust your main dash fuel gauge.

Good thing it is for diesel.
I sure would not want a hot wire on the LED anywhere near a gasoline filler.

Who are those "most people?" I don't have them. I know of only one guy who has then, and he only has flow scans because the boat was equipped with them when he purchased it.

OH!

Thank you!

Frank
