This may sound like a funny question, but I am getting ready to have a 24' x 36' x 12' high pole barn built with 10' high door and would like to know if a 95 to 2000 250 sundancer on a trailer will fit through the door?

The real question is will the 280 or 290 fit when you get two foot itis?

My boat is 9.5 feet high on the trailer to the top of the windshield. It's a 1987, so I'm sure that doesn't help you are all.

My 1996 270 DA fits through a 10 ft door. It has about half an inch to spare, and I had to work on the trailer to get it to set that low. I wish now I had made the door 12 feet tall. I would suggest you do that same if you can. Maybe you are putting the door on the side of the building, not the end. That does limit you. If you put the door on the end, then you can use scissor trusses and have the door be as tall as the pole building side wall.

The door really should be 12 feet wide also. The door I normally put my 270 in is only 10 feet wide. That leaves about 9 inches to spare on each side. That is not a log of maneuvering room.

But you should think about the next boat you will get. One way I have found to estimate height on a trailer is to look at the boat specs. Find the draft with the outdrives down at their normal position. That is a rough estimate of how high the waterline will be off the pavement when the boat is on the trailer. Next, find the boat bridge clearance. That is how much height you need above the water line to clear the highest thing on the boat. Add the two together, and you have an estimate of the required door height.

oh, and since this barn is related to boating you have to post pictures of the building process!

Go bigger! Are you putting in an overhead door or sliding? If sliding go the full 12' to be safe for the future. If overhead I would go with 11'. It will be a special order door, but you won't be kicking yourself late when you decide to upgrade the boat.

I recently put up a pole barn and asked a similar question regarding door height. I only had a 20' boat at the time and it would fit in an 8' door. I knew that someday I would upgrade and asked around. I was told a 10' door would fit most any trailerable boat. Well when I purchased my Sorrento I measured it in the parking lot and started to sweat. It measured at 119.5". :smt021 I am able to get it in the door with out letting air out of the tires :smt038 , but it will be something I will always have to think about when I upgrade.

Also as mentioned I would try to go at least 12' wide. Makes backing in much more pleasant.

Thanks for all the replies. The door size I am currently thinking of is 10' x 18'. I wasn't sure how high a 250 would be. My current boat 1990 220 CC would fit, but I am really thinking of a mid to late 90's 250 Sundancer as my next boat. The 250's seem like a nice "all around" size for inland lake running, Lake Erie and short trips.
