Helm Panel Gauges, Bulb Noun Nomenclature and other factoids?

I posted this under the "Official 380 Thread," but I believe many will just skip over, and I am almost certain these bulbs apply to many other 2000 - 2003 models.

Maybe someone has this information at hand, the Sea Ray parts manual gives their part number, but I am looking for a number I can use at West Marine or elsewhere.

My port fuel gauge bulb is burnt out, so if I can obtain the information about the bulb beforehand I can purchase a few, then pull the panel, replace the bulb ,and put the panel back all at the same time.

And not this procedure;

Pull panel
Remove bulb
Leave to go purchase a bulb at West Marine or elsewhere
Come back to Marina
Replace bulb
Replace panel

So does anyone have any links or other data about these bulbs?

As always, thanks

Went through the same deal.... Still don't have all the info, but for my '98 the bulbs are a standard auto dashboard bulb.... the only hitch in the giddy up is..... the wattage of the bulb..... they had the identical bulb, but there were lots of different wattages available. Sorry I can't help more.

Have you tried calling the dealer and asking them what they are? Then sourcing elsewhere?

Here is a link to what is needed PS-161.

It does use an automotive bulb, number 161, the catch is you must buy the bulb, and then solder the electrode connections to each side of the assembly and hope you do not mess up the assembly.

The inside of the assembly is all plastic, so just pushing a bulb in will not make electrical contact anywhere.

The assembly even states to replace as one complete unit

Hey Psuedo,

Thanks for the bulb info!

On the same subject - what color is your wet compass backlighting? Mine is a very dim warm white. My dockmate (Windjammer on this forum) has a blue wet compass backlight on his '06 340. (I'm jealous Windjammer - it looks a lot better than mine!).

Anybody changed this bulb (wet compass)?

Puesdo,

I thought the 2002 and newer gauges did not have replaceable bulbs. I know the OEM on our boat were sealed units and the Smartcraft ones I upgraded to are also sealed. Did you have to crack the gauge open to replace bulb?

Well Henry according to my HIN my boat is a 2002 model. I just removed the screws which hold the complete instrument panel in and these are stuck in at the rear top of the gauge, about 1/4 turn CCW and they pull out.

I ordered five online today, as they just cannot be found locally around here.

I see from your pictures you have been posting you have done a very good job on your helm.

Any idea where I can get an inexpensive Sea Ray standard aluminum pole table mount? I do not have the measurement with me I know it is 2 plus inches in diameter. I need the mount for under the table top. I will look when I get home as I believe they are 7 and 9 inches in size, the part which bolts to the table.

Interesting thing about the gauges, I wonder why they were consistent across the product line. No matter, you are probably better off with replaceable bulbs. The gauges on our 280 were ridiculously priced. The replacement trim gauge, a 2.125" diameter was something like $ 175.00.

What type of table mount are you looking for? Is the pole an upside down J, or just a straight pipe with tapered ends? The straight mounts are the easiest to find (once you know the diameter). Garelick is one of the larger marine seating and table hardware makers. They are one of the suppliers to Sea Ray. They only sell at the OEM level, but their website is very detailed, so you can find the part number for what you are looking for and then go to any of the retail suppliers like West, or Overton's, or any other online distributor. The straight pipe mounts for a table are about $ 40.00.

You might try FPmarine. They are surplus liquidators, so it depends on what they have at the time you are looking. I just checked and see that they currently have a couple legs and some hardware listed at decent prices.

Re: Helm Panel Gauges, Bulb Noun Nomenclature and other factoids?

I have a white plastic round four cup holder type, maybe 2 foot in diameter. I need a mounting bracket for underneath which the aluminum 2 7/8 pole fits in.

I am going to look at FP Marine and see.

Unlike the gauges, the table is the same as we had on our 280. The pole is 7 shaped. So you need a horizontaly mounted clamp. The ne our boat was made by Garelick. The table is actually 22.5" in diameter.

This link shows the parts. You want the one with the recessed pole mount in the deck.

Do you really want to use that table? I upsized because it was too small for anything more than two cups of coffee.

In any event, you need the j post to get the right position on the table and seats. Once you get the mount, try several sizes of cardboard to get a top size that is more useful.

I have several table designs, once you have a size idea let me know and I can send you some sketches.
