High Dollar Repair

Thanks for posting the resolution. One of my pet peeves on forums is that, so often, problems are presented and solutions suggested but no outcome is ever detailed.

Safe travels.

I got my boat back yesterday and it was the coupler. It was stripped but he said the shaft was fine. I will describe what he said as close to it as I can. He said that there are nuts that adjust the allignment of the motor and the outdrive and that these have a way to lock them into place once you get the proper allignment. He said it did not look like these had ever been locked down and that my motor had dropped about an inch putting the coupler and shaft in a bind causing the coupler to eventually fail. I had a 100 hr. service and replaced the shift cable as well and my total was $2,093.00. Thanks for all the input I just wanted to let you know the final out come.

Hope he changed the gimbal bearing, too. When the alignment is that far off, it puts a load on the bearing that often causes excess wear.

Best regards,
Frank

He did not change the gimble bearing but said that he checked the entire outdrive carefully and did not find any other problems. I also had him check plugs and wires, serpentine belt etc. He said that it was one of the cleanest 10 year old boats that he has seen. Granted he works primarilly on salt water boats and I rarely put it in salt water and when I do I clean it very well as soon as I pull it out.
