.....................make sure you have long enough cables to allow the boat to come down far enough in the water to float it off.:wow:

That sounds pretty basic but I have heard numerous stories of people on our lake who are surprised to find they can't lower their boats far enough into the water with our current drought and low water levels because their lift cables are too short.:smt021

I'll bet some installers are getting some pretty nasty phone calls from these folks.:smt100

Actually... you don't want too much cable and this is a normal adjustment. I have 2 boat lifts on my dock. The ends of the cable typically have a loop in them and then a connector is there to a section of chain which is extremely simple to do. If you can put out an anchor on your boat, you can do this. The chain then connects to the cradle. If you want more depth, you just need to install longer galvanized chain between the cable end and the cradle. You really don't want too much of the cable winding up on a typical lift or it will get all stupid on you as it winds up on the winding pole.

Once you have discovered the cable is too short there isn't much you can do to add more chain until water levels come back up and you can set the lift and the boat down in the water is there?

Since I had to replace the entire sterdrive & transom in a one year old 240da,..I purchased a HydroHoist 8800lb lift. I LOVE IT. No chance of damage and it keeps the boat and ALL metal parts of the lift out of the water.

Dave,

Do you find Lake Wylie has a HUGE iron issue that propetuates early corrosion?

Exept for the metal bands that hold the logs on the lift in place. Plus, unless you have the low water series of hydrohoist don't you still need 7' of water under your slip to get the boat off of the lift? In low water you still need a certain amount of depth under the lift so it doesn't hit bottom before the boat floats off of it.
