Kolher 5E Gen Spark Plugs

Came with & have replaced with NGK BPR4ES. Autolite & Champion are less expensive & easier to find. What are others using?

This is what I use and have been able to get them at O'reilly's automotive for the under $2 range. For those wondering this is just an auto parts store like Autozone and the like, etc. Don't forget like I did the first time, the 5E has (2) two spark plugs, the first time I looked I could not see the one way in the back of the unit.

I use the NGKs. They aren't that much at the local auto parts store, and I keep two on board in my spares kit.

I've got 220 hours on my Kohler. Time for a change?

If the genny still starts up easy, runs smooth then it will tell you eventually when it is time to change. On these generators it is more a number of hours run time, yes alot of people change them every 1-2 hundred hours. Always good to keep a plug socket and couple spares on board, even impeller spare. Kind of like the impeller it will start to let you know typically before it fails by reduced water flow and higher temps. The annual service time is a good time to do the plugs when you change the oil and filter. I have been know to hold off on the plugs to every other year. JMHO.

Mine went 4 years and about 1000 hours on plugs. Changed them just for the thrill of it. They looked fine.

Run Blowers for 4 minutes and check for fumes.
Start it.
Warm it up 1 - 3 minutes based on water/air temp.
Run it loaded up.
Cool it down 1 -3 minutes based on water/air temp.

New impeller every year.
New Oil/filter every 100 hours or so.
New Zinc as required in your area.
Run it frequently.
I sprayed all wires/mechanisms with white Lithium grease - not the best option, but man, that thing has worked like a horse - why fight success?

I will add that I do run mine every week at least a half hour with load. Also do the cool down for 5-10 minutes. Yeah, I'm sure there is some adjustment that needs to be made, but if all I have to do is change the plugs and it runs great, I'm not messing with it.

Do you think letting it run that long to cool down is fouling your plugs more often. I let mine cool down without a load for 1 to 3 minutes. Plugs have been fine.

I know different motor but when I was a mechanic at the local go-kart track we tried about every plug brand we could. The NGK's fouled out less than any other brand. The motors were 5hp Honda's.
