My masthead / anchor light needs replacement, as I can't keep the anchor bulb working consistently.

I would like to replace it with LED (tired of climing up the arch to replace bulbs). My options are get a direct replacement (it's a Perko with two bulbs) and find LED bulbs to fit, or get an LED unit like this Attwood model. I'm leaning towards the Attwood, rather than hacking something together. West Marine calls it "a direct replacement for the Perko used on most Sea Ray boats".

Anyone have any experience with the Attwood, or know of other LED masthead / anchor lights? I've searched the forum, and while there are lots of posts on replacement LED bulbs, I'm looking for someone with direct experience with this Attwood light.

Then I'll move on to the port, starboard and stern lights next, so if you have recommendations on those as well...

How about this LED as a replacement bulb???:

What size bulb is that? I know the cockpit lights are 42mm - also curious if it meets Coast Guard requirements.

I picked up a mast light a while ago from e-bay. Can't remember the brand but it came from Australia. Claims to be certified for 2 nautical miles at night and I believe it, it's way brighter than the old incandescent. I pondered just buying the bulb vs. the whole mast and it seems they are/were about the same price. The only thing that I discovered is that LED's are polarity sensitive. If it doesn't work one way, turn it around and try the other way. I first thought after shipping around the world it must be broken but nope, just had +/- backwards.

See, that's what concerns me about just buying LED's. How do I know they are bright enough, etc? And since I need to replace the housing anyway...the LED housing (sealed) seems to make sense.

It made me curious as to what I bought and so here is the link.

You'll see many other items they sell lower down the page as well. Might as well order your sidelights at the same time and save on shipping. It was fast and exactly what you see. Darn good price I would say also, considering it came right to my house vs. having to hunt around different stores to find what I wanted. With nearly 16,000 sales and 99.9% feedback it's pretty safe buying.

Good Luck!!
