Does anyone have a quick and easy chart or website for finding out what size bulbs I need to replace the arch lights on my 270AJ? The bulbs are Perko 70 DP0 CLR, but I haven't found a comparable bulb on superbrightleds.com (i just want confirmation I'm ordering the right thing!).

Thanks for the help!.

LEDs are directional, not omnidirectional. You won't find a substitute. I don't understand this infatuation with LED lighting. Put in an incandescent bulb. The optical characteristics of the light are designed with that source in mind. The purpose of navigation lights is safety. Therefore unless you are going to recalculate the physics (optics) to use LEDs, don't screw around.

For folks who overnight on the hook, and who don't have generators, LEDs are great. LEDs dramatically reduce power usage, which is significant when using the anchor light for hours on end. Also there are LED arrays approved for the 2 nm visibility requirements for anchor/all round lights.

Some LEDs are spot and some multiLED arrays can be flood.

I love them, personally. They were great on our 250. And, they're getting cheaper each year. Amber LED festoon bulbs in the cockpit lighting was pretty effective at keeping the bugs away.

A final plus for those without airconditioned cabins, small single, double, or triple LEDs produce no heat. That keeps the cabin cooler while making your battery charge last much longer.

Please, no hyperbole. They're 10 watt bulbs that draw less than an amp. You can run one overnight without depleting even a small G24 battery. 10W is about 34 BTUs - negligible. A human body throws off 250 BTUs when sleeping, and that energy figure only goes up from there depending on activity.

With all due respect, Frank, have you ever tried pulling out one of those halogen bulbs after it's been on for just a little bit? They are HOT. Much hotter than my body, and some tell me I have a HOT body.

Do you have LEDs in your cabin so you can compare, or is this just British Thermal Unit theory? We noticed that our cabin was cooler with several LEDs on than with the same number of halogens.

To say there is no substitutes is incorrect. Nothing wrong with using an aprroved LED replacement if you like it and don't mind spending the extra money. Talk about hyperbole

Physics and mathematics are real. I don't do fantasy or wishful thinking. Data above is real-world. You can look it up in any physics text and standard reference manual.

I wasn't sure if you were referring to nav lights when you said "arch lights".
If you were referring to nav lights, Frank is spot on.
In general- and in particularly the cheaper LEDs- they are not as bright as incandescents and may not meet the visiblity requirements (1 or 2 nm) for nav lights.

That's why LED nav lights are so expensive...

If you weren't referring to nav lights disregard my post.

If I wanted nav lights I would have said nav lights. I'm an Elec. Engineer so I understand LED light patterns and such. I'm looking for replacements for the arch lights (underside courtesy lights to be more specific) and cabin courtesy lights primarily for longevity and reduction of power consumption on the hook since I have no generator. LEDs have their place and I agree with you Frank, unless the lens is designed for a single plane LED light pattern, I'd never use one for any nav light or critical pattern lighting. At the end of the day, Searay will be going to all LEDs on their new boats as the lens and LED technology has improved to provide a fill lighting effect.

All I was looking for was a website perhaps or a chart that showed the replacement bulbs for existing part numbers. I'm working on putting one together myself since it doesn't seem to exist. Thanks for all the input all!
