Thanks for all the great discussions on the Low Cost Dinghy thread. Any advice on a matching dinghy motor?

Are you looking to go new or used?

Throw us a bone here. Size, HP, 2/4 stroke, gas, electric?

My Yamaha 2-stroke, new, 8 HP cost $1650 last year with full warranty covered locally. I bought it online.

what's with all the low cost threads?

Just get a good outboard. One that's matched for the dinghy (the dinghy will tell you what you can use). The difference between a low cost and a good one is only going to be a couple hundred $$ in the short run. In the long run the cheap one will cost you more.

Sorry for the late reply. I was looking at something for a 7' or 8' inflateable dinghy...maybe 2hp to 4hp. I have to tend to everything on our boat, so I'm looking at something not too heavy. I just ordered the Suzuski 2.5hp 4 stroke, it was the lowest weight (29#) I could find, along with an Aaronboats 8'2" dinghy. Hopefully this will be manageable. I'm going to play around with just tying up on the bow and stern before I decide on any davits.

Thanks for the help,

Mike
