Marine Radio / Antenna proper install

Setting up our new purchase with a Marine Radio......

Hoping someone can help direct me to the proper installation of our new radio and antenna.

I noticed a grounding wire tucked up in the 36" Stainless Steel antenna we got with the radio and it started me reading google searches....which can sometimes provide too much information.....

Just wanted to know from the experienced people out here how critical it was to grounding the antenna.....and how to properly do it on the fiberglass hull if it should be done for the radio to work at its best.

What kind of radio are we talking about? Audio system or VHF? Either way, you definitely want to ground the antenna.
