Mercruiser 2000 7.4l MPI problem

I have a 2000 270 sda with a Mercruiser 7.4l MPI. 310 HP. I am having an issue where the engine will intermittently decrease in power so that the rpms will not go over 2300 to 2500 rpms or about 10-15 knts. Once this occurs is will ultimately recover after a while showing an increase in power without increasing throttle.

I started getting this at the end of last season and though it may have been caused by bottom fouling. bottom and outdrive are totally clean.

has anyone experienced this before or know what it might be?

I'll leave the technical stuff, like fuel pressure & electrical issues to those more qualified. These guys here on CSR are good but they like details.

That being said, How often is "intermittently"? Does the boat idle fine? Any chance the fuel has been sitting too long? Have you checked the fuel filter?
