The Clearwater MarineMax has the Mercruiser traveling show with display stands of the SeaCore 8.1L & 5.7L (I believe) and Zues Drive. I talked with the factory engineer/manager and he said the Horizon and SeaCore engines are pretty much the same. They have gone away from the ceramic coating on the exhaust because of cracking and use another coating which doesn't crack with thermal fatigue and use a stainless steel section which is water cooled in a way that won't leak and allow water intrusion.

He also confirmed that the 8.1L block will be history soon as GM will stop production, didn't know what the replacement will be.

Also showed me where thr MPG display is on the Smartcraft, it's in the lower menu (sun icon I believe) and if you toggle thru the MPG will appear in the bottom of the display. Now if I can get my boat back (in for bottom paint redo and other warranty stuff) I'll be able to try this.

If you are near the Clearwater area call MarineMax (727-536-2628) and see if the Mercruiser display trailer is still around. For you folks that like mechnical stuff this is a treat and it's free. Tell the Mecruiser engineer Bob Grantham that Mike sent you (we talked about Sports Cars and Porsche for a couple hours!!).
