Well I'm super psyched I finally bought my first boat she is a 1985 250DA. I bought it from a guy who seemed more than happy to get rid of it ( i was told by the marina owner his wife didn't like it). I picked her up for a grand total of $2000. plus a used surfboard and wetsuit.
She needs some cleaning but all and all seems in pretty nice shape I have yet to try and start it but did pull the coil wire and bumped the motor a few times to make sure it wasn't locked up and i wanted to see if both batteries had juice and one did and one didn't. I spoke to the marina owner and the shop owner who serviced the boat and neither had a bad word to say about it. I plan on servicing the motor myself in the next week and i've scheduled the outdrive to be serviced buy the shop in the yard. I can't wait to get it in the water! Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Sell it!! Before you get hooked. Boating will make you go broke.:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021:smt021

Have fun with it, sounds like you got on heck of a deal. Even if the motor was locked up it still seems cheap.

I guess I'll be working a lot of OT but I've wanted a boat for a long time so it should be worth it

I am very familiar with tose old 250's. They make a very nice boat. A word of caution: I would replace the impeller, if you were bumping the motor without a water supply. It's a good practice to change the impeller anytime you are not aware of it's history, anyway.

Best of luck, and enjoy your new boat. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this board that can provide helpful information.

Thanks for the heads up. That was one of the questions I asked my mechanic regarding the servicing of my out drive. Apparently he is going to pull the drive change the impeller inspect everything reinstall and change the OD gear oil. I'm an aircraft mechanic and feel comfortable with the motor work but this OD is out of my comfort zone.

If you are an aircraft mechanic, you have a very, very handy set of skills for boating. The drives really are not that complicated, just not very tolerant of mistakes.

Nice. Our boats looks almost the same. Mine is 1985 Sundancer 250. It's a good boat, take good care of it and it'll pay you back. Good deal. As long you don't mind rolling up your sleeve and grease elbows. Nothing beat a good ol' labor and pride. Who need brand new, breaking a bank when there a good ol' sea ray that need good owner to fix up. Have fun with your project. I have my Sea Ray since 2006 and I'm still working to improve and add many cool stuffs.

HAHA yes they do look quite similar. I saw your pics in another thread but didn't read your signature at first and i was like damn that looks like the perth amboy bridge motoring towards the driscol and parkway bridge(i live in south amboy) haha and sure enough you are from NJ. I was going to get a slip at Morgan marina (inland of the morgan draw bridge) but i saved 1800 by keeping it down in Lanoka Harbor.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. Have fun on the water and also on putting the work into getting everything in good shape. I have owned mine for a year now and for me the fixing and restoration work is very enjoyable. Mine was repowered and the drive rebuilt shortley before I got it so I started with getting everything else mechanical and electrical solid and am now starting to work on replacing/refinishing the exposed teak woodwork and replacing some of the old vinyl on the deck. I feel like this era boat has a good foundation and can be well worth putting the time, effort and $ into it. You will get a lot of good advise here when you have a question. Good luck with your project.

Robb212,
Welcome and good luck with the 250. A jersey guy myself, I recently bought a 85 260 DA from a friend. Been sittin a few years but I got the Gelcoat lookin new. Needs a little work here and there but with myself being in the marine business, It helps. Can't wait to get it down to Little Egg from Woodbridge. If you need help and I'm in your area, let me know. Matt.

Hey rob, you selling your boat already? I saw the ad on craigslist, the pictures seem similiar. And I saw my picture was being used bse he doesn't have the picture at first.

hmm thats odd, no my boat isn't for sale. Especially after all the money I've put down cleaning and fixing stuff not to mention the time i've put it. Perhaps they are from the old owner and still hanging out there in cyberspace. I can't wait I just got my new registration and I plan on putting her in the water next weekend (if it finally gets nice).

Here the link, that person used my pictures, both of them are mine....

That actually that is my Durango and boat. I did some sleuthing my friend is playing a joke on me. I posted his house for sale cheap do to possible divorce cause his wife was super pissed at him as a joke but made sure all the emails when to his personal email. fortunately he's a bit to stupid to figure out how to have them sent to my email so I'm still one up.

I haven't gotten it in the water yet, I really want to compound and wax the hull first but all the rain has pushed the splash date back. Last saturday turned out to be kind of nice so I took the wave runner out for the first time. Let me know if ya need any help redoing the seat vinyl seats let me know cause I plan on doing it for my seats also so I wouldn't mind lending you a hand so I can see how to do it,

Greetings I bought my first boat last christmas 2007. It is a 250DA Sundancer. I was lucky and put it in the water last summer and went all summer with no problems, except a slight leak in the bilge area through the transom/ outdrive housing. It turns out a seal in between the outdrive and ginble ring housing was out of place causing water to seap in, we hope that was all. Replaced the gimble bearing that was rusted and worn out also. I am really happy with it so far. Gas at 4.79 a gallon last year didn't help.

Then really fix him up good... Change the boat ad to have his email address and phone number on it. Then, he'll be getting all of the calls for the house AND the boat. Got anything else that you can sell in his name? Apartment comlpex, arena, factory, pizza parlor? :smt043
