need help understanding coring issue

Cored boats that are stored outside in cold climates with wet cores freeze and the expansion of the ice causes delamination. The SR factory will tell you where the coring is used. Most of the mid 90 boats under 40 feet had coring only in the decks and parts of the transoms for I/O boats. The remainder of the hulls were solid glass.

Don't forget the hardtops on newer boats. I know mine is cored and the Tech installing my KVH whined like a baby when I asked him to use a whole saw, remove the coring and repace w/ epoxy before bolting the KVH to the hardtop. We actually imbedded the nuts in the epoxy. Same with the broadband antenna, except we just screwed into the epoxy. Most hardtops should have solid fiberglass mounting points for the normal electronics like radar, GPS, VHRF antenna's, etc.
