Boat Info
2007 sea ray sundeck 260
Engines
6.2liter merc b3
looking at 240's or 260's used sundecks. 2005-2007 range.

seeing with 5.0 prices around high 30k
seeing with 350+mag prices mid 40'sk

found a 350 mag 2005...usual priced low 30's with less than 100 hrs.

private owner
kept in slip and is bottom painted

guy claims that "candidly i did hit rock 2 weeks ago at 2mph, small dents in skeg and a scrape on prop, but boat runs fine".

is this a big deal????

if i did need new prop/fix hull dent...is that expensive?

thanks again guys

Pull the boat and look at the bottom. If there isn't any hull damage, then I would ask as few more questions like did the engine stall when he hit the rock. If it did, then the coupler may have been damaged. At the very least, the drive alignment should be checked.

As to the price, the owner might just want to make a quick sale in a bad economy. If the hull checks out OK, then consider that you could buy a brand new Bravo III for about $5K if you had to. A prop tune up for both props should be less than $300, and the skeg "damage" is no problem if it isn't cracked and about to fall off. If it really is just a few nicks, clean them up with a file to smooth them out a little and repaint the drive.

EDIT:

Didn't see this. Dent in the hull? Now THAT is a red flag. Have him get an estimate or two on the repairs to see what ballpark they will be in. More than a couple hundred bucks and he has some more 'splainin' to do...

Guy seems honest, as he could have not told me about issue. Claims boat been fine since, but when asked ADMITS to stall after hits rock.

Damn, just signed contract on thus one. But contingent on sea trial, so I could jump ship, literally. If skeg and prop dented, and boat stalled, sounds like likely bad news. No hull damage though.

Stalling after hitting a rock is not unusual. It's basically shutting itself down to prevent further damage. Hitting a rock at 2 mph really isn't that big of a deal....not ideal but it can happen. I hit some rocks on my previous 240SD and it just scuffed the skeg. If you boat long enough it will happen.
