Hi all,
Recently purchased a 2002 300DA with Furuno Navnet 1722C radar/c-map chartplotter/sounder and raytheon ST60 tri-data electronics.
The radar and chartplotter on the Furuno work fine, but the depth sounder is terrible. At any speed over 20mph or depth over 100ft, it loses the bottom. The transducer is an 'in hull' airmar p79 transducer that's connected to a network sounder that's connected to the Navnet unit.
I also have the Raytheon ST-60 tridata connected to both speed and depth/temp transducer. And the raytheon transducers are both thru-hull types. But it also looses depth quickly after 20mph and/or 100ft.
The both seem to be mounted in reasonably good locations in the bilge which should always be pretty clean water. Any thoughts on why my depth is so unreliable?
I have another unit, an lowrance hds-5, that I took out of our 260 which we just sold, that I'm thinking of putting on this boat. And right now the only reason would be for it's outstanding sounder operation. But I really don't need it if I can get one of these others to be more reliable. ANy ideas? We've done things like clean off the bottom of the tri-data transducer with no change in performance.
Thanks,
Terri
