My husband and I bought a '07 240 Sundeck last Labor Day and are having it delivered 4/11/08. Neither have any boating experience; how much difficulty will we have using out boat at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri?

If you have limited experience, dont worry as you have to start somewhere. My two suggestions would be for both of you to take the USCG Basic Skills course this winter and to then initially go out a time or two with someone experienced in not only running a small boat like yours but also who has some local knowledge of the water you will be heading out on. Maybe your dealer can help you with this...?

Definately agree on the Coast Guard Safety course. My parents made me take it when I was 16 for a 13ft Boston Whaler I had up on Long Island NY. It's full of good information, I didn't realize how much it helped me until I got my current boat May '07 and I'm 30yrs old. Good info on right of way rules, safety, basic stuff like the proper way to tie off to a cleat. Highly recommended.

welcome to the board,
Put your boat info in your "signature" so we can always know what you're refering to.

I think the advice above is solid and you'll be best off to take everything slow and deliberate and the do it over and over again.
It'll seem like second nature soon.

Best of luck!

Welcome aboard and congratulations on the new Boat!
Sounds like you've already got some great advice.

Welcome to the board!

To answer your question...Starting out, you would be wise to start out during the week instead of a weekend. You've picked the busiest lake in the midwest to boat at. If you do boat on the weekends, find yourself a nice cove, this may take some searching. The main channel gets far to rough to really enjoy yourself (IMO) The last time I was there visiting friends they took us out in their 28' open bow. Couldn't even get the boat on plane do to the waves bashing us about the boat. I think it's considered the second most dangerous lake to boat at in the country... listen to the advice given above and be carefull.

There are a couple of people here that boat there but I haven't seen them on here for a while. If they see your post I'm sure they will chime in.

Welcome to the board....you can find tons of great information on this site. I boat on Table Rock Lake near Branson MO. I have been to LOTO a few times....and concur with RiverRats suggestions....it can be very rough on the weekends, depending on your location. Enjoy the new boat.

Welcome,

The dealer should have a captain show you the ropes on the water when you get it delivered in the April. Isn't this the standard in your area? If not look into hiring a captain. It would be worth the money. This is a good size boat for first timers. Take a video cam and film the drive. that way you could review it so it sinks in.

Be sure to put your boat info in your sig and sign up on the member map.

Thanks for all of the good advice. I have taken the Coast Guard exam and have my Missouri boating license; now I just need to get out on the water which will not be in the main channel.

NICE BOAT! CONGRATS I am sure she will be sweet. What color?

Congrats on the new boat!!!! just wanted to chime in my 2cents about LOTO. We did our sea trial with our boat there and it was rough. The advice to go during the week to get your bearings and to get used to your boat is great. Be careful and I know you will have fun.
