Hi all :)

Currently landlocked, but have started looking. My wife and I have decided to move from the rv hobby to the boating lifestyle. We had a 19' bowrider before our first rv, probably...umm..10 yrs ago now. Having grown up near/on the water, we have finally decided that it's time for a boat. Two friends of ours have Sea Rays and have nothing but great things to say about them.

We have plenty of time to figure out which boat we want, because step #1. is to sell our rv. So far, we are leaning towards a used 280 Sundancer. We want to do day trips, weekend trips and maybe even longer trips. The 280 looks like it has all the comforts of our rv, as long as we get one with a generator. The prices of ones we have found online make us think that this is all do-able.

I have a thousand questions, I'll start off slowly. Great group here, glad to be here!

Joe

Welcome aboard Joe. Good luck in your search.
You've come to the right place for your thousand questions!

Welcome to a great site...
glad to see another Mass' guy here!
Where abouts you live here?
My club has a couple of nice(really nice) older SR's for sale, I can get you some info if you're interested... short money, great boats!

Anyway, this wasn't a sales pitch...LOL
Welcome aboard!

elcome aboard Joe......Slowly getting a few more MA people here? Whereabouts in MA are ya? Good luck with the sale of the RV you'll be glad ya made the switch!
Keep us posted!

Welcome aboard from the Other side ~O~the country.
Good Luck on your new hunt.

I'm in Taunton, but grew up in New Bedford. My two buddies both have slips in New Bedford harbor, and that's where I intend to go.

I've labored for a couple of weeks about which boat to go for. Our current rv is 36' long with a Cummins 300 hp engine. I would love to get a diesel engine in the boat but our budget won't allow it.

My past history with motorcycles and rv's has been that dreaded 2 foot itis. It took me two years in both cases to upgrade to what i really wanted.

SO, now that i'm older, and hopefully wiser, I dont want to go through that again. Since our son is 18 now and won't be home much longer (stop snickering all you guys with older kids) our boat of choice will be used to day trip with the two of us and friends/family. For overnighters, it will probably be just the wife and I. That being said, I love the dinette in the 280. I also like the 9'6" beam. I would like to get twin engines, but having read some positive posts re. a single engine, I'm not 100% sold on the twin idea. It definately will have a genset, a/c and heat. Ok, also the radar arch. We cant justify that one other than to say we like the looks of it.

We also want something we can tow. Not often, and maybe only to put it in and out of the water, with maybe an annual trip somewhere south. We really just want to keep our options open, and the 280 seems to fit the bill. I realize it wont be the easiest thing to tow, but at least it's do-able.

Garjowan: Sure, send me the info, I haven't found the perfect choice yet. Tho right now we're not 'in the market'. Once the rv is sold, then we'll be ahead full speed!

Welcome aboard Joe! I live right in Taunton as well, but we boat in Rhode Island. Narragansett Bay is a great place to boat and less than 1/2 hour ride from Taunton. FYI, purchase a boat in RI, and slip it in RI will save you the MA sales tax. Bassett Boat in Warwick RI is fantastic to deal with for sea rays...PM me if you want a contact name down there. Good luck with the boat search!

Welcome fellow New Englander! I just purchased a new 2007 leftover Amberjack 270 with 6.2 BIII and love it. Took delivery last weds and already have 14 hrs on it. There are plenty of great deals out there right now if you look around. Good luck and be safe out there!
