is it common for a water pump to go bad? has anyone ever changed one of these on their own? do you have to order the pump from sea ray or will some other pump work?

Which water pump are you reffering to...........the one on your engine or the one for for your fresh water system? If it is the latter then look at this posting. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34091

Are you sure your water pump is bad?
Your pump should have a sticker with brand, model and other info. You should be able to find it at many different marine supplies, including West Marine.

Are you speaking about a potable water pump or the pump on the engine?? Both fail but are generally very reliable. I've replaced one potable pump in the last 40 years and two engine pumps. Both are remove and replace.
