Have a question re: CAT oil analysis results for 3126 Engines. The oil analysis done at the survey was all normal with Iron at 75PPM for both engines. The oil had about 75 hours and the analysis was done by the survey company.

With about 50 hours on new Rotella 40W the Iron was at 50PPM, with other results OK as per CAT oil analysis. All other readings were similer to the original survey results. Twice with 100 hours on new Rotella 40W the iron is at 130PPM with all other readings similer to all prior samples. Cat now calls this iron reading high and to "Monitor the Compartment." Samples were taken with the CAT pump in the dipstick pipe and only down enough to get the sample. The engines are NOT the soft blocks.

A google search shows some comments about this situation and questions CAT sampling process and also the readings unique to CAT 3116/3126 engines.

What does everyone think?

I use Ringpower Cat here in Tampa. I had some questions about a sample I had taken. I called and talked to the Tech at the Lab and he was very helpful. I can't remember what high Iron means ( rust in engine compartment I think) but call your lab Tech and ask him what he thinks.
Not to throw you a curve but I would get to the bottom of it. It is odd that both engines are reading the same.
