I have an 85' 30' Sundancer with alpha one drives. When I winterized the engines this fall, my starboard engine showed a temp. of over 200 deg. when the normal temp. should have been 145 degrees. I always pump through extra antifreez just to be sure, in this case it was 6 gallons. My question is, should I have a worry to ensure enough protection for the engine for the upcoming winter and should I need to worry about the impeller in the outdrive in the spring ?

Thanks in advance

Sydison,

I had a 1998 310DA that had one overheat problem. I know that my normal operating temp is 170 degrees and I believe that the overheat was in the low 200 range. I had the marina look at it, and the engines were fine but some of the other components did not fare as well. It could just be your sensor. I would suggest talking to a mechanic about it and not take any chances.

The outdrive was just rebuilt lat winter, so the impellers onoy have 44 hrs on them. There was no issues at this summer while running the boat. Engine temps werre well with in normal range.

Check your thermostat to make sure it opens. If it does, check your engine's cooling pump.
