I've got a 1990 310 Sundancer with twin 454 inboard v-drives. I took it out yesterday and everything was fine. We were anchored for about 5 hours and when I went to leave my alarm went off and the port temperature gauge showed that it was overheating. I checked all the belts and they seemed ok. I managed to get it home on one motor. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Obviously you need to check for waterflow through the engine. Check for anything blocking the intake like a plastic bag. You should be able to remove the thermostat yourself very easily. These get corroded and stuck open and/or closed. Impellers only last 3 or 4 years MAX. If you haven't had them replaced, you may not have sufficient water flow through your engine. They need to be kept fresh.

If your manifolds haven't been pulled, you probably need to do that too. They're generally ok for about 3 years, then need to be pulled every year or two to check for issues to avoid trashing the engine completely (depends on salt, fresh water, rinsing...).

Good luck.
