What does the ECU use this parameter for? My port sensor went last week, along with my battery charger. Although I don't think they are related.

The engine still seems to run fine, all parameters seemed the same on both engines. It gave an error code, and if you display the intake manifold temp, it shows 5' F. I removed the sensor, it reads open. I will go get one in the morning, local Cummins dealer has 4 in stock, but I wonder what it affects.

I'm guessing that the sensor is after the turbo and aftercooler. Therefore the temperature sensor, combined with that manifold pressure sensor, determines the mass of air flowing into the engine. Knowing mass allows the ECU to inject the correct amount of fuel. It may also affect the timing of the injection event, not sure about that on diesels. This is more critical at higher power settings.

Best regards,
Frank
