Really expensive oil !!!

Pete I get them at NAPA Auto Parts, they stock them here in Ft. Lauderdale. Napa caters to the commercial fleets and they have all the "Stuff" for these big boy diesels.

I run Shell Rotella T 15-40 in my mains and genset, and Rotella 30W in my transmissions. $9.97/Gallon at Wal Mart for the multi-viscosity and $13.97 for the 30W at Napa...my local Wal Mart must not have been selling enough single weight oil-tjhey no longer stock the Rotella 30W.

Each year I buy 12 gallons for the mains and gen set, (22 quarts per main, including the filter) and 1 gallon for each transmission. Generator takes 4.2 quarts including filter.
Filters and fluids were under $300 for mains, generator, and transmissions.

My local dealer's 2008 Winterizatoin price list for servicing diesels, incuding oil, oil filter, and fuel filters? $2450-$2850 depending on the application. I am guessing B series Cummins are on the "low" end @ $2450, , C series/480CEs/QSC 500/540s/600s in the middle, ~$2650 or so, and the QSM 11s and MANs at the high end, @ $2850. This does not include coolant filters, or transmission service, or replacing all the Main and Gen Set zincs, which I do as well. Other interesting prices:
-Winterize Marine Heads: $162.50 each
-Winterize Genset: $250, final price depends on application.
-Winterize Ice Maker: $62.50
-Winterize Windshield Washer: $62.50.

etc. etc. I ran the numbers and including shrink wrap, I would have been writing a check north of $5K to have someone else do the work. To DIY, including contracting out the in-water shrink wrap, will come in under $1K.

I will keep doing it myself.

I used to use DELO from Costco but this year all they had was 15-40w and I use straight 30w so I went to Auto Zone and got 14 gallons of Shell Rotella @ $9.99 per gallon...
West Marine wanted $18/gallon for DELO 30w.

On this topic but not diesel related, what is everyone using in older gasoline engines like mine? I've been using Delo 400 15W 40.

I use Shell ROTELLA T Multigrade SAE 15W-40 in my 5.7's.
