Shore power vs battery power

I'm a new boat owner (waited 30 years to get a boat) and recently purchased a 2001 Sundancer 240. I'm still learning all the functions of the boat and I have two questions. First, the outlet in the galley only seems to work with shore power and not on battery power. Is this normal and if not, what do I have to do to get power on this outlet when on battery?

Second, I have controls for the radio/CD player on the cockpit panel. But I can't seem to get them to work. Again, is there something I'm not doing or could I have a problem with a connection, etc.:smt100

1) Nothing reasonable you can do to get that outlet to work on a battery. It would take a large bank of batteries and an inverter. Or, you can add a gas generator, but that is an expensive undertaking.

2) Sounds like a loose connection.
