mine is a 2005 390 sundancer. does anyone have a replacement source for the short hose that has the rubber check valve in it for the shower drain hose that takes the water overboard? marinemax says they dont carry it.

hmm..

You talking about a whale valve?

I saw them in West Marine about an hour ago.....

this is a rubber check valve that is inside a short yellow hose that goes inside the sump box on the outgoing side of the bilge pump. it takes the discharge water to the hose that dumps the water overboard

you could remove check valve from inside sump box and add one outside shower sump

would i use the whale valve shown above and i am assuming it would go just outside the sump box and before the discharge hose. has anybody done this and what adapters would i need?

I have a 2001 380DA. I found an exact replacement from:
-Depco Pump Company (Clearwater Fla) 727.446.1656
-Part Number RU M-1086 $ 6.13
Duck Bill for shower sump
Hope this helps.

kellertb.... I recently changed my shower sump box.....that had a switch failure. It was a Rule #97A.....it has a check valve inside the box on the out going side of the bilge pump. I was going to toss the old sump out.....if its what you need....I can pull the check valve out and send it to you ....if you still need it.

If you need ....I can also post a picture of it.....and you can decide if it will work for you.

Let me know.....

I just had the same problem, and there are several other threads about the sump. These check valves are notorious for going bad.

MarineMax couldn't get the part (unless you buy the entire $158 sump box). West marine sold a check-valve for $20, but the valve as-is was too long. So I opened it (it unscrewed), and took out the rubber check valve inside and then I was able to do a hack-job and use it as a replacement. Not an ideal fix by any means, but it worked.

I have added a Whale check valve on my shower box, the original valve was leaking back slightly so an additional valve seems to have solved the problem.

Easy to fit and very cheap to buy, I suspect the original "in-box" valve is prone to slight failure, so don't see the problem in helping it out a little.

Hmmmm ... I just replaced the pump in my shower sump ... I noticed that the old pump had a check valve, but it didn't register until I read this thread ... I threw it away (the old pump). the Rule pump that I got as a replacement had no check valve in it ... at least it wasn't visible.

Do these valves only stop shower water from coming back into the sump or are they meant to stop sea water from entering?

Thanks,

For my sump, the check valve is actually inside that 3 inch tube that went from the pump to the box. The reason for the check valve is that the sump is below the water line, and the hose exits above the water line. The pump can't squirt that water out since it's going uphill. The check valve stops the water from coming back into the sump, refilling it and causing the pump to turn on. This can cause the pump to run continously.

what happened to me was that the sump box was overflowing. the pump kept running until it tripped the pump fuse. before figuring out that the fuse had tripped, i replaced the sump pump and float switch. then nothing, so i found the tripped fuse. then i turned on the shower and the sump pump wasnt draining the box. it turned out to be a clogged overflow pipe (the one taking the discharge overboard). i took a garden hose downstairs and flushed the discharge hose clear. all is well and i have a spare pump and float switch.
