As you can see from my profile pic, I have the "long" side windows that were used in many 80's/ early 90's boats. I have noticed some leaks and after some testing have discovered the issue appears to be with the rubber seal around the glass, not where the frame meets the fiberglass, but between the Plexiglas and frame. I have noticed it has lost it's flexibility with age. Does anyone know where I could get replacement rubber for this type of window? I would like to attempt replacing the rubber rather than just injecting a bunch of silicone between the window and frame. I have looked on Taylor Made’s site but all I see are hatch parts.

Thanks,
Ryan

On my 88 340 DA, that seal is not rubber at all. It is bedding compound between the glass (actually plastic) and the aluminum frame. It is then covered with a plastic snap in trim piece. I removed the entire frame, cleaned off all sealant between the glass and frame and between the frame and hull. Rebedded both. If this is your case, be careful to read the limitations on the sealant for the plastic. Most sealants say "not for use on acrylic" in the fine print. The wrong stuff will not seal. Learned the hard way.

I think he's looking for the inserts inside the frame that the windows actually slides in. I took my windows out of my 85 250DA and am rebedding them on the boat but my tracks are sunbeaten and rotten out too. Hopefully someone will respond with a source.

the bedding compound can be purchased in a roll from most rv stores i paid 14.00 for 50 ft of black from general rv in birch run mi.i rebuilt my sliders this year and just installed them sunday.

How much time did this take per side? My starboard side started leaking slowly last season, but port seems to be fine. Debating whether to just go ahead and get it over with on both sides, depending on time needed.

Does this come on a flat roll? I know this is a rubber seal around the window on the outside, but there is something "holds" the acrylic window to the aluminum frame. I assume it is this bedding compound? And from what I can tell that is starting to deteriorate. I am thinking about just removing the rubber, rebedding the window into that adhesive and then re-trying the rubber.......

Did you use some type of sealant when bedding the window back in your boat?

Finally made it to the RV store. What they have is called Butyl Tape. Does that sound right? It's on a roll between 2 pieces of paper. The guy had no idea if it was used to set the acrylic in the frame, but he said they use it to seal the frame to the RV, and for installed roof hatches, ect. All they had was grey. Is this what we need to bed the acrylic to the aluminum frame?
