I friends Sea Ray 310 with 5.7's is having issues.

The symptoms are the left exhaust manifold is very hot. All four manifolds and risers were replace last season.

The engine is definitely skipping.

There is white steam (more then normal) coming out the exhaust.

After running the engine for a few minutes, I checked the oil level, and it was way over full. The owner hasn't added any oil. The antifreeze seems to be at a normal level.

The oil was not milky.

He has a mechanic coming Friday, but I was wondering if anyone has a guess as to what might be going on.

He may have more than one problem.
He has a head gasket leak, possibly a cracked block. Water is definitely getting into the combustion chamber to create the steam.
Raw water is not making it to the exhaust, so it is running hot.
Sounds like he got an internal leak in his heat exchanger, then a head gasket blew.

Thanks Captain

The mechanic came Friday. The sea strainer (under the boat) was clogged with barnicles. That caused the engine to over heat. We stun off the oil filter, and it was clear water or antifreeze got into the engine.

Next step is a short haul to clean the strainers, and for the mechanic to take the heads off to see if it's just a head gasket or worse.
