Sub Woofer Install

Yes I do, I've not yet followed the path, but I imagin your going to ask what battery to hook it up to.

I was thinking of hooking it up after the battery switch that way if I have the switch on one, two, or both the amp would still get power.

okay we are not audiophiles. I have the CMD4 head unit, 4 stock clarion speaker and I am adding the sub mentioned above. What would be an example of decent amp to add? Add 2 seperate amps?

would like to improve my sound but on the cheapside to make the boating dollar go further.

would something like this amp work for my situation above?
Pyle PMRLA620 marine amp

Looks like being a 6 channel that would cover me on the 4 regular speakers and the sub could be powered of the other 2 channels. If I decided to add another set of speakers up front I could I disconnect the sub, add the speakers and get another amp for the sub?

These run around $195 on ebay. is there a better amp for the same money?

Based on my equipment aboove I would love to have your comments on this amp.

at $195 that's a great deal. There are couple of things I like about it other then just being 6 channel.

1. Variable Hi/Lo Electronic Crossover important for the sub
2. Variable Bass Boost
3. Remote Bass Boost (very nice so you can turn up and down the bass as you like without affecting volume)

The only thing be careful if you set it up for 4x 100W and 2x 250W the sub is only rated at 150W so you could blow it up if you have it up to loud.

you guys make my head hurt!

Okay so If I got a amp dedicated to the sub we just bought what would be the right size? I thought you guys said we didn't want and amp that would have to work at the high end all the time.

Sorry your right, bigger is better you just have to be carefull not to turn it all the way up then. The less it has to work the longer it will last and the least about of heat it will put out.

I'd get that 6 channel for $195 or ebay that seems like a great deal, similar amps are over $600

thanks for your help. I never have been good with this stuff.

Since we only paid $48 for the sub its not a huge loss. I seriously doubt I would have it cranked all the way up...but I do have a 17 year old son. I'm really just trying to clear up the sound and and better bass.

That $195 inlcudes the shipping as well.

I highly doubt that amp puts out anything close to its rating. The problm with that is you are putting your speakers and sub at risk by sending a distorted signal to them. IMHO, you would be better off spending a little more on a more reputable brand. Here are some examples:

MB Quart http://www.millionbuy.com/mbqnaa665.html

JL Audio http://www.millionbuy.com/jlam6450.html

Kicker http://www.millionbuy.com/kikzx7005.html

The 1st two are marine grade. I would probably stick to that rating in a bow rider or deck boat. If it's going into a cruiser, you can probably save a few bucks and get one that isn't marine grade.

I've read through this post, but I'm still a little confused. I bought 2 of the Kicker marine subs (CC still has two in Somerville MA, if anyone is still looking), but my intention was to put one sub under front lounger (near the bow speakers) and the other under the rear lounger (near the rear speakers). I was going to power them with a 200w / 2ch Rockford amp and NOT power the factory speakers. Will this work....or am I way off???

Seems like ALOT of boom, you may wanna dry fit them and try them out before mouting them and I'm not sure 200w will be enough power to drive two without making it work hard, but then again with 2 even at a low volume there will be alot of bass.

Good points. You might want to put 1 in first and bridge the amp.
