Most of us have made comments on the lack of attention a Sea Ray electric bow horn receives on a Sundancer. If you were buying a new Dancer, equipped with an arch, what would you be willing to pay for the option to have a stylish highly polished stainless steel twin trumpet air horn? If you did not choose this option the boat would be equipped with standard electric bow horn.

What would be a fair price you would be willing to pay at the dealer level for this option?

I can tell you that I've never had an electric horn last more than a few years before it failed. Near as I can tell, the dual air horn on my EC is original, and works flawlessly. Believe me, they definitely will get another boater's attention...

Seems like a silly question, but how is the air compressed? Trucks have engine mounted compressors for braking systems (and horns). Is a similar method used, or is there a DC powered compressor?

depends on size horn used sea ray uses 2 type of compressors

small one installed inside arch and making air pressure on demand - when you press horn button, it activates compressor

bigger horns use compressor mounted in bilge with own air tank. this is more expensive - running air line to arch, electrically operated air valve needs to be installed and compressor itself is not cheap too. that system runs on about 90-120 psi

An air horn shouldnt be an option on a cruiser that sells for 100-300K. It should be standard. But since an air compressor to blow up water toys is a 750.00 option and a flag pole is a 258.00 option then I would guess an air horn would be a 1500.00 option. Four Winns as well as many others have them as standard equipment. I'm glad I had mine replaced. The duck horn was a joke.

My '89 340da has factory mounted air horns. There is a small compressor and tank in the cabinet under the helm. It works great. In fact it works so well that I warn my slip neighbors before sounding it when coming out of the fairway. I have made small children cry and people drop their soda pops.

HEY! I'm all for the LOUDER AND BIGGER THE HORN although I seldom "toot" my own.

Brian, I agree. I'm not sure the reason for the discontinuance of the air horns from the earlier Sundancers. Perhaps it was to remove them from the foredeck to allow unobstructed use for sunpads etc...

I'm not sure what a the added cost would be, but I bet it would require to break out another thou.

I bought twin Kahlenbergs at the Fort lauderdale show about seven years ago. This included the compresser and tank. I paid just under $800.00. I had a wedge made unto which I mounted the horns. It was brass and chromed. This was on the cowl of an aft cabin. Without the mounting the horns would have pointed down at the foredeck. I pitched the horns down about 15 degrees. They drained any water while at the dock and were level while under way. I did the install myself. Very easy.
Those horns were great!

hi guys my silly duck horn on my 2004 sundancer is just
embarassing looking to change horn but what ever i do its got to be in anchor locker will air horns be ok
cheere YO YO

The compressor on my boat is inside the arch on the starboard. There is a small inspection panel that allows access for service and the compressor is very quiet. You can not hear it run even with the engines off. It's standard equipment, but certainlly not "free."

Hi guys i should of said i dont have an arch only place is my anchor locker but it might sound bit muffled

I'm pretty sure that's where MM mounted mine too. I bought the horns, they did the install.

A good air horn is nice to have. Love the sound.

The sound is really embarrassing.
I bought me a horn available in Germany, called "Ocean Blast"
I want to mount it on top of the arch. This is not a problem, but
does anybody have an idea of the correct wiring?
