While out on the water, all my gauges, including the speedometer, oil pressure, water pressure, fuel gauge, etc. (except the Odometer), stopped working upon restarting the engine. Does anyone know what could be the cause and how to correct? I have both batteries connected.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry..... my bad but what is the Smart Craft gauge and how can it be repaired?

If you have smart craft, you should have an lcd screen on the bottom of your tach. I have never seen one repaired, they just replace them. If you don't have an lcd screen on any of your guages, you don't have smart craft and you need to start looking at fuses. It's been a while since I've had a 240, but if I remember correctly there are some inline fuses in the main wire harness on the top port side of the engine that could be the culprit.

The LCD display on the bottom is only partly correct. Some of the other gauges that SR installed also have lcd displays on the bottom of the tach. The key is if you have buttons on the botttom of the tach, and possibly the speedo.

To answer the original question. Smartcraft is a technology that in its basic form allows the remote display of data from the engine computer (PCM555). Stuff like rpm, engine temp, oil pressure, volts etc. All the stuff the engine computer has to monitor to make the modern engine run properly. Mercury built on that adding additional functionality for things like rudder position, fuel tank levels, water tank levels, supercharger boost and navigation things like depth, COG etc. by adding optional transducers/sensors to collect the data.

Because it is a networked system one of the gauges going bad can bring down all of the other gauges. It does not damage the other gauges, just makes them inoperable.
