Thinking about upcoming season and with our newest addition (4 month old) the admiral and I are thinking about places for the little one to nap.
We have the bow filler cushion but it's not covered by the bimini. I am really tempted to try to convince her to upgrade to a small DA:smt100
ANy ideas for the time being to shelter the little one? I had thought somewhere that we had seen some sort of domed sun tent.
What did/do you guys with little ones do?

When I had my Oldest son, I had a 180BR. We had him nap under the bow's tonneau cover. Worked pretty well.

When My Oldest daughter came I had a 220OV and then when the twins came a 230OV, so on those two boats, the cuddy was great.

Trust me the kid(s) will be fine there, if you have a cover, if not have one made.

Best of luck, don't let the kids stop you from boating

I've had my son out with us since he 3 months. What I did was open the helm storage door the cuts off the bow area, and put the car seat in front of the door (next to the helm). This way he was protected from the wind, and the bimini covered the sun from this area 90% of the time too. The humming of the engine always put him right to sleep.

We did the tonneau cover thing also, worked great. We also carried a large golf umbrela. When at anchor for example it was easy to move around to keep the sun off the grandkids. We would just lean here or lean it there, no one actually held it.

Those are a couple of nice options Wes.....I actually was scoping the second one out when I had to do the dreaded registry thing for the baby shower.
Needless to say, the admiral made any subsequent trips with her sister!

I really like the second option since it would fit right over the bow filler cushion.
I would like to try the tonneau cover option too but I have black canvas and I have a feeling she would roast under there.....but then again what do I know?
I'll let ya know in a few months since we just got another 4-5" of snow

Weave and Wes,
The thing that you will want too is the breeze to enter the shaded area too to keep the lil' one somewhat cooled off. The newer style car seats have the built in shade so you may be happy enough, for the first 3-4 mos to just let them sleep in there in the bow.
It's nice though when they can sleep there, covered, with a breeze. Trust me that 1-2 hours of silence floating, will be something you and your Admirals will cherish.

Weave,
I'm guessing this is your first newborn. Having the little one covered is only one of the considerations. I have to worn you that there are much more. So, I as you already thinking, the upgrade will be just around the corner. You'll need cabin with galley and other nice things like hot water and A/C, providing you're planning to be more on water during the boating season. BTW, don't wait for the summer to find out you need a bigger boat. Now is very good time to upgrade.

Good luck,
Alex.

Amenities sound good but they will come in time....I have to finish my MBA and we are planning on looking for a larger home before we can get the larger boat.
Sounds like a plan thus far.....

Wes, i like the smaller sun tent but read the reviews. Seems poorly made.

Weave,
I hear you. Sounds like a good plan.

One of the temp solutions for my son’s naps during the day I was using car seat hanging it by running a line between biminies and looping through the car seat handle. This would put him under the canvas in the middle of the cockpit leaving enough room for us to hang out on the stern seating and keep an eye on him. This was pretty safe, b/c the car seat would be in the same position as when you carry it by hand, but in addition you can use it as a swing to rock baby to sleep.

We’ve done it in our 240DA, but this can work fine in any boat with biminies.

Hope this helps,
Alex.

I suggest also getting one of those battery powered fans (runs on D batteries I think). We kept our little one in a car carrier as well while underway behind the bow doorway next the helm, and laying on towels anywhere out of the sun while on anchor, or in a portable tent when on shore. The fan does wonders on keeping the baby cool on those really hot days.

We took both our girls out when they were babies. A fan is a great idea. Be careful putting them under bow covers or partially enclosed areas Not sure where you are but here in Georgia it gets really hot and covered or enclosed areas become ovens.

On our 21' bow rider we would put up the top and hung a towel to keep direct sun off. When we had the 240SD the bimini top did a great job. Both of these combined with a litlte fan worked great. Most of the time we were in the water. The only time they needed cover was for a nap, usually an hour or so. Remember the sunblock (water proof and lots of applications through the day).

Getting excited for this...... Can't wait to see how she does out on the water!
