1st, let me say this isn't really about my frugal nature. It is more of a convenience thing. I currently do not have a spare tire on my trailer mostly because we really don’t tow our boat anywhere. Our marina does all the launching and it’s about 500 yards from the dry storage to the launch ramp. However, this year we have a Lake Powell trip planned where I will be towing my boat for about 1,200 miles round trip and having a spare seems like a good idea.
Now to my question, I have a spare rim off my 1968 Mustang that is in very good shape. It is the same diameter as the trailer rims (14”) and has the same bolt pattern. Any reason I can’t mount a trailer tire to this rim and use it as a spare? The trailer tires are ST205/75D14. Thanks for the feedback.
