I was able to pick up a sonar/fishfinder unit (DSM300) for a great price. I rarely fish off the boat but it is nice to have for diving shipwrecks are analyzing new anchorages. I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this question: When factory installed, does the DSM300 share the transducer that is installed in the bilge basically below the battery charger or does it have a dedicated transducer? If it's shared, where is it spliced? Thanks for the info

My dsm 300 has its own transducer. I don't think you can use two devices on on transducer. If you bought a dsm 300 that is made in Mexico you should send it into raymarine because they are replacing them with new units for free as there was a serious issue with all the units made in Mexico which caused them to lose connection with the chart plotter requiring a complete system reboot to recover. For some this happened once a day and for others every few minutes.

Good luck.

Good info, I'll have to check. I was concerned that two transducers on one boat would cause interference with each other. If that's not the case, then I'll gladly install a second one.

I just took a look and it says Designed in USA, manufactured in Mexico. I'll have to give Raymarine a call and see what can be done. Thanks for the heads up!

I currently have a DSM300 (SeaRay dealer replacing as it was made in Mexico) in my 2008 330DA and it shares the transducer with my GPS and Vessel View. When the dealer replaces my DSM300 with the new one they are also installing a 2nd transducer. 1 transducer will go directly to the vessel view and the other will be for the GPS and fish finder.

It only works if the xducers are operating on different frequencies.

gkuypers, where does the dealer intend to install the 2nd transducer (if you know)? Also, do you know which model transducer they plan to install? I'm leaning towards a dedicated transducer but as blaster said, they need to operate on separate frequencies.

I think the confusion is with shared connection input vs. output. If you take a quick look at the manual for DSM300, you can see that there's only one transducer input. However, once the data is processed it can be shared between many displays (e.g. ST60, MFD, VesselView, etc.).

It would be interesting to see how the dealer will hook up 2nd ducer. But, IMO, the fact that one will go directly to VesselView could mean that it can process the ducer's input, while the other ducer will go from DSM to the MFD and/or other instruments. At least that's how understand it.
