The Trim Fault alarm on the stern drive trim on my 04 Merc 496 Bravo III went off last time I was out. At the time the analog tilt gauge seemed to show the tilt bouncing a bit. I've since checked and filled the drive trim fluid but I still get the fault alarm. When I adjust the drive trim the tilt motor sounds like it is working but there is no change in the analog tilt gauge and no reading on the mercury smart digital gauge. Nothing I can find in the owner's manuals says much, is there a reset for that alarm, other things I need to check? I'm a couple weeks from pulling her out for the winter and having a full drive unit service performed. Thanks.

The trim sensor(s) on the drive are likely causing the problem. I had one replaced due to water intrusion 2 yrs ago. I had the same symptom you describe with the bouncing tilt indicator.
