My old/original trim tab switch is wearing out. While shopping around for options I've come across these newer versions that have indicator lights that show the position of each trim tab. I like that. What operates that feature? Is there a sensor or does it just go by the range of motion? I guess what I'm asking is: can it be installed on my old 5 wire system without modification?

Assuming we are talking about Bennett tabs, it's a little more complicated than just replacing the switch. The indicators operate by installing rods (sensors) inside each trim cylinder. You then must run a wire thru the transom and either 1. up to the indicator (seperate style) or 2. to the control module (EIC combined style). I retrofitted the indicator on my tabs and wasn't a difficult task.

Here's an overview of the installation: http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/EIC5000_installation_instructions.pdf

EXACTLY what I needed to know. I can use my existing cylinders and tabs and add the indicator by just retro-fitting the cylinder upper hinge. Thats the beauty of the forum. Thanks!
