Heading down to Virginia Beach this weekend. Not sure if we'll be taking the boat...

Anyway, its been a long time since I've been down there. Anybody got some advice about places to go while down there?

Dirty Dicks sucks. We slipped at Fishermans Wharf, tried to go there twice around 9, always closed. In fact, not to be too negative but every restaurant around Fishermans' Whart stunk. Bad food, bad service.

We are heading down there for labor day, some huge 40 band music festival.

Six of us went down to Rudees the second weekend in August during the beach volleyball tournament and tied up in Fishermen's Wharf Friday & Saturday night. We had dinner at the bar in Rudee's both nights and had great food and bar entertianmnent byRay worked the bar both nights. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk and it's the first time we'd been to VA Beach in 10+years and we were very pleased with how everything seemed to have been cleaned up and quite nicw. The beach is in excellent shape and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Not only can we spend hours watching the babes play volleyball as well as all the entertainment by the people walking by on the board walk.

This is probably too late for any advice but...

There are basically three areas for marinas in Virginia Beach. The first is Little Creek which is pretty much worthless as it's a Navy workboat yard and right at the end of Norfolk Airport's runway. I think the marina in there is cheap though so it is a locals place. Never been in there.

Lynnhaven Inlet has a bunch of restaurants that you can dock up next too (and block people's view and piss them off). It's just outside the Bay Bridge Tunnel on the Atlantic side. We always go in there for lunch if we are out fishing. Bubbas is good. For dinner, One Fish Two Fish at Long Bay Pointe is good. If you are staying the night, Long Bay Pointe is the best marina. They have a small dockside restaurant/bar as well as a pool. I kept my boat there the first year I had it (480 DB). It is not near the "beach" though. They have a great tackle/bait shop there and sponsor a fishing forum ( http://www.vbsf.net ). Their fuel is way over priced though. Also... NO PROPERTY TAX ON BOATS IN VIRGINIA BEACH!!!

The other area is Rudee Inlet. If you want to go to the beach, this is the only marina area within walking distance. The inlet is constantly being dredged and you may want to check out the latest Local Notice to Mariners from the CG before you use it. I have not been there this year... If there is a wind out of the east at all, it can be a little tricky if the thing is shoaled up. I like it in there though...

I guess Greg and I have opposite tastes on marinas/places. I think Cape Charles had nice docks but the town stunk and I like Rudee Inlet... his view is the opposite.

Nope, our views on the area are the same. We got bored at Cape Charles real quick, nothing to really see and explore there. The marina is fantastic though. Fisherman's Wharf marina is not the best, but the location is great.

Fishermans Wharf has great access to the beach and lots of great places to walk to. We were just disappointed with the local restaurants and the service. Plus the plane noise drove me nuts.

I am not a resorty beach person either, just not my thing. Good for a day or two but then I get tired of the crowds and noise. I prefer places like Kiawah Island, SC.

When I was moored at marina Shores north of VasBch at Lynnhaven Inlet, my fave and affordable place was BUBBA's. Geat crab cake sandwich, fish always fresh and everytime I go to that area I arrange to have lunch or dinner there. Only one place for me...but then I'm an ole sap.
