I worked all winter on restoration of my 85 Sundancer (25") and was looking forward to an event-less boating season..
However, yesterday i noticed a relatively small amount of water in the belly..
It appears to be coming from the speedo tube that petrudes through my hull just front of the engine..
Therefore, this being an 85 does anyone know of a part number for this tube or have any recommendations?
Thanks

Welcome aboard!

That's just standard pitot tube hose. You should be able to get it just about anywhere.

Thanks for your comment,, but i probably did a poor job explaining it..

It is a tube that is flanged with a slotted neck that the speedo insert slides in to and locks.

I believe this tube is either cracked or the flange seal is leaking.

Before, i attempt repair I would prefer to have whatever part is needed if i don't i will spending valuable days on the dock..

Thanks

Well, now I'm confused. Could you try explaining again? Do you have a pic?

Does your pitot tube come from a transom-mounted pitot or from the drive?

Either way, if you wanted to (or had to), take the pitot tube off on the outside of the boat. Your speedo won't function, but no water will come in the boat.

The speedo is not on the transom on my 85 Sundancer.. The is a hole approx 2-3 inches in diameter the is through the hull just front of the engine..

This "hole" has a flanged tube that enables the speedo insert mounting..

Aslo, just to the port of that is another hole that mounts my transponder..

I'm told this is original equipment on an 85 Sundancer 25'

So, your speedo pickup is mounted through the bottom of the hull?????? I have never heard of that before. Whoever told you that was OEM must have had one-too-many the night before.

I'm completely at a loss to help you. If you can post a picture or two, maybe I can be of more help. Sorry.

Some of the old SRs used through hulls with fittings that screwed into the flange. If your's in one of those, they typically came with a plug that screwed into the flange so you could remove and service in the sensor. Does this sound familiar?

Thank You.... at one time I thought it may of been an after market install.. But, a second look tell me otherwise.. Bad design, especially if you trailer the rollers can be damaging..

Now would you happen to know how i can get this piece?

So this was definitely a Sea Ray thing? I've been in older Sea Ray's and don't ever recall seeing that. Heck, my brother used to own an '83. Oh well, learn something new every day I guess!

When I get to work today, I'll check on it for you, Hank.

Can I make a suggestion? Get rid of that whole thing and just replace it with a flush mount thru-hull that you then "cap" on the inside. Then, just add a $10 pitot tube to the transom.

Or just plug the hole and use your GPS for speed, probablly more accurate anyway.
