Hi Guys,
My cousin is letting me use his 2005 270 sundeck. I have it in the water behind my house. I delivered the boat to my house a couple days ago. I took it out and drove it around for a couple hours. It now has been sitting for 2 days, I went to use it today and noticed the water isn't draining out of the engine box bilge. It rained here today and there is probably 10-14 inches of water in the engine compartment. If the engine is started the belts fling the water around. I am guessing this isn't normal and wasn't like this when I got the boat.
Is this normal? If not, is it the bilge pump? I could't really see where the pump was located because the water coverering it and it's pretty tight in there. Can anyone give me some advice? I am an experienced boater, but don't know much about Inboard/outboard motors or Sea Rays.

Thanks

Your bilge pump should have automatically kept the water down. There is a manual bilge pump switch in the dash. If the pump kicks in when you flip that switch in the dash you have a problem with the float switch in the bilge.

Better minds that I will soon help, but I'll start.

My first instinct would be that you are correct...abnormal condition. There should be a bilge pump underneath. Is there battery power? If so, it should have run the bilge pump. Try the manual switch on the dash. Reach under the engine, toward the front, and see if you feel it. There is probably a float as well. Perhaps there is an obstruction at the intake of the bilge pump, or the hose may have come loose that outlets the bilgewater. If not, sometimes pumps fail and need to be replaced. No battery power? Get some, see if it starts pumping. Most of the Searays I have seen use Rule Bilge pumps. They may have a little clip to let you pull them up and clean them.

I have had similar issues. Se if bildge pump turns on. If it does, the float switch could be working - check the master fuse on the automatic pump in the engine compartment (that is where mine is on the 290). It seems to blow. Bad Sea Ray design - no indication that fuse blew and auto-pump not functioning. I put in a larger fuse - and am considering adding a second backup pump.

The float switch on your boat runs off battery #1 and the fuse is located in a fuse holder on the bulkhead by the Perko (battery) switch. If the pump comes on when you manually turn it on (with battery switch on) then start with the fuse and also make sure battery #1 has power. If you need anymore help PM me.
